Hollins named Big Ten Player of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS After scoring 41 points in Minnesota's game against Memphis, Gophers guard Andre Hollins was named the Big Ten Player of the Week.
Hollins had his breakout game against his hometown team, as he grew up in Memphis. His 41-point effort helped the Gophers beat the Tigers 84-75 in their second game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. In that game, Hollins was 12-for-16 from the field, including a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range. He also made 12 of his 13 free-throw attempts.
Through seven regular-season games, Hollins is second on Minnesota in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game. Only senior forward Rodney Williams is averaging more per game (14.1).
Hollins is the first Gophers player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors since forward Trevor Mbakwe did so in November of 2010.
After winning two of three games in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament thanks in large part to Hollins the Gophers now face Florida State on the road Tuesday.
