Time running out on the Phillies?

It’s notoriously difficult to look ahead and project where a team will be in a number of years, but the warning signs for the Philadelphia Phillies are there and obvious.
Everyone knows the nucleus of the team is aging, but it’s frightening to realize that this team is built to win, built to win now, and if that doesn’t happen, three years from now the Phillies might not be the cream of the crop anymore.
The days of the Ryan Howard-Chase Utley-Jimmy Rollins era are clearly coming to an end.
Howard was recently inked to a five-year contract extension that should keep him in Philly for the remainder of his career, but how effective the already 31-year old Howard will be is yet to be determined. Utley has the knees of a 50-year old man and the days of him playing 160 games and hitting .300 with 30 home runs are long gone. Rollins will be a free agent after the season, and although the team may bring him back, he’s no longer close to the superstar MVP he was...
