Packers place Bishop on injured reserve

GREEN BAY, Wis To get their roster down to 75 by the Monday afternoon deadline, the Green Bay Packers released two players, placed six on injured reserve and put two on the reserve physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Defensive end Jarius Wynn, who had three sacks and started four games last season, was one of the two players released. Fullback Jon Hoese was the other.

Linebacker Desmond Bishop headlined the group of players placed on injured reserve. Bishop injured his hamstring in Green Bay's preseason opener and had to be helped off the field. Coach Mike McCarthy stated two days later that Bishop's season was in jeopardy and that surgery was imminent. Bishop led the Packers in tackles and was second in sacks last season.

Bishop was joined on injured reserve by wide receiver Shaky Smithson, running back Du'ane Bennett, tight end DeMarco Cosby, offensive lineman Ray Dominguez and defensive end Johnny Jones.

Tight end Andrew Quarless, who suffered a significant knee injury late last season, was placed on the reserve PUP list. Linebacker Frank Zombo is also headed to the PUP list with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of training camp.

The Packers have to select their final 53-man roster by Friday night, just 24 hours after the conclusion of their final preseason game.
