The Best Tournament of 2011 (WTA): The US Open

Entering the 2011 US Open for the women, there were countless storylines. Serena Williams was coming off a great summer on the hardcourts of North America, Venus Williams was playing for the first time since Wimbledon, defending champion Kim Clijsters had withdrawn with an injury, and No. 1 player in the world Caroline Wozniacki was still chasing her first Major Championship. This event had a lot of hype to live up to, yet it did not disappoint at all. Every round featured excellent matches, and the drama was at a high throughout the tournament. Seeded players were upset from the very first round. Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova and French Open Champion Li Na both lost in the first round.
