UFC 127 Aftermath: Who Is Next for George Sotiropoulos?

Before losing an unanimous decision to German kick boxer Dennis Siver; George Sotiropoulos was riding a seven fight win streak (six in the UFC). However, this fight did expose some small holes in George's armor.

His wrestling.

Being the superior grappler, it was obvious that if George could have gotten the fight to the ground, the victory could have been his.

Unfortunately, he was unable to take Siver down.

Siver was consistently picking George apart standing up and the fight saw zero successful take downs from Sotiropoulos.

Aside from his wrestling, George Sotiropoulos has it all, great jiu jitsu and excellent boxing skills.

With those attributes, he can very well get back into title contention fairly quickly.

Also, the fact that he has never been submitted or knocked out in or out of the UFC, is very impressive in of itself.

He has defeated top flight competition such as Joe Stevenson, Kurt Pellegrino and Joe Lauzon.

Which I think definitely sets him up to face higher competition.

The matchup I would set up to fully test George Sotiropoulos would be setting him up against former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

Why?

Sean Sherk is a former title holder with excellent wrestling, underrated striking and a good ground game. He is a very well-rounded fighter that would be able to challenge George in many areas.

Stylistically, it's a great matchup and could tell us a lot about the future of these two contenders in the UFC lightweight division.
