Resurgent Flames Chase Playoffs

CALGARY -- The question being bandied about the Scotiabank Saddledome -- and in the National Hockey League in general -- these days is the same on everyone's lips: how have the Calgary Flames turned their season around so dramatically?

A mere month ago, the media had the obits ready and the fans were turning on their heroes, even all-world goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. As of Tuesday, they sport a 27-21-7 record for 61 points, and are a blistering 13-3-4 in their last 20 games.

As they head into Wednesday night's home encounter with the Ottawa Senators, Calgary sits in eighth spot in an unusually tight Western Conference, one point up on Los Angeles, two on Minnesota and three on the defending Stanley Cup champ Chicago Blackhawks, whom the Flames defeated 3-1 on Monday night.
