The World Cup and the U.S. Stock Market

For the United States, the beautiful game has never taken hold of it?s citizens like people of other nations. Part of it is due to a culture clash and wanting to be American, free from the influence and culture of foreign lands like Europe and Latin America. Another aspect is credited to various other sports, like football and baseball; sports that have existed in this country for generations and were conceived on our shores.� However to my delight, soccer?s popularity is rising in this country, moving beyond the Saturday morning youth soccer leagues and into the living rooms and bars across America. During the 2010 World Cup, more and more Americas were watching the World Cup unfold in South Africa and media coverage for the event dramatically increased. Viewership increased that summer, America flags littered sports bars, and ?Sam?s Army? woke up early to cheer their team enthusiastically thousands of miles away.
