Rory McIlroy and Tiger woods played head on today as they teed off in the same group in the back nine this afternoon. Both Woods and McIlroy made the turn at 4 under par. There was a short period of time when it looked like Woods would come out in this pairing beating McIlroy by a stroke or two. It didn?t happen, McIlroy did what he has done the past few weeks and gained his composure and beat Woods by 1 stroke to finish his day tied for the lead with 3 others at 8 under par.
Today the tour put together a group with the best of the best, just think Tiger Woods the old power player on the PGA Tour and the new power player on the tour Rory McIlroy. Face it people we are starting to see the changing of the guard, McIlroy has the makings of the new generation of PGA tour players. Barton's suspension upheld in Ligue 1
The French Football League has upheld Joey Barton's domestic ban by the English Football Association, ruling the midfielder out of a further nine league and League Cup games with his new club.
The LFP said in a statement on Thursday that ''the punishment is applicable'' in France for ''national competitions'' and that Barton has served three matches of his ban.
Barton joined Marseille from Queens Park Rangers , where he was serving a 12-match league suspension for elbowing Carlos Tevez, kicking Sergio Aguero and trying to head-butt Vincent Kompany in the final game of last season against Manchester City .
The 30-year-old is eligible for the Europa League and could make his debut away to Fenerbahce on Sept. 20, but will have to wait until November for his league start.

Rooney thinking about midfield role
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes he could have a future playing in midfield when his days as a forward come to an end.
Rooney, who is missing England's World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine through injury, has revealed his thoughts on his future playing plans in his autobiography which is being serialised in the Daily Mirror.
Rooney talks of a switch to midfield, where he played last season during an injury crisis at United, explaining: "I get more of the ball, I'm involved loads and, after one game, I even think about playing there permanently, but only later in my career.
"Once I feel that I haven't got the sharpness needed to get away from defenders, I'll probably drop back into midfield for a couple of seasons so I can still influence the game."
Rooney also wrote about the agony he felt when the Barclays Premier League was claimed by arch rivals Manchester City last season on a dramatic final day which saw United beat Sunderland only for City to snatch a late winner against QPR, with United losing out on goal difference.
"Someone shouts, 'City scored two in injury time' and I feel sick. Our fans look heartbroken.
"There's nothing worse than having the same points as the as the champions, but being second best."
Rooney also talks about the remorse he felt after celebrating scoring a hat-trick against West Ham by swearing into a TV camera.
Upon seeing his angry face shouting into the camera after the game he immediately issued an apology.
"I'm shouting, screaming and swearing into the cameras. My face is all twisted, scowling, angry, wound up. I start to feel sick. I know I've let myself down."
"I got carried away, made a mistake, and now I regret it and genuinely feel sorry."

Senators sign Zack Smith to extension
The Ottawa Senators have signed center Zack Smith to a four-year extension worth $7.55 million.
The 24-year-old Smith is coming off a career-best season in which he had 14 goals and 26 points in 81 games. He also provided a bit of an edge in racking up penalty minutes. The deal announced Wednesday keeps Smith under contract through the 2016-17 season.
''It's hard to find good young NHL players, and when you get them, you want to make sure you have them for term if at all possible,'' general manager Bryan Murray said. ''It allows us to have another good young player to build around.''
A third-round pick in 2008, Smith has played in 152 games with the Senators. He also helped AHL Binghamton win the Calder Cup in 2011.
Smith's extension was completed less than a week after fellow center Kyle Turris signed a five-year extension with Ottawa worth $17.5 million.

Stoke awaits Owen approval from BPL
Stoke are sweating on Premier League approval on their last-gasp bid to sign Michael Owen on Tuesday night after the striker finally agreed to join them.
It is understood the Potters are set not to learn until Wednesday whether the move would be ratified by the Premier League board.
It was unclear on Tuesday night whether Stoke had provided the relevant documents for the signature of free agent Owen before or after the 4pm deadline for clubs to submitted their 25-man squad lists.
The uncertainty meant the Premier League were only able to release details of those lists for 19 of their 20 clubs, with the Potters' still pending.
It is understood Stoke would otherwise be prevented from filling Owen's spot with another player if his move was rejected.
Clubs are able to sign free agents outside the transfer window but are only able to field them in the Premier League if they have previously registered fewer than 25 players.
The Premier League said in a statement: "The Premier League board is currently considering an application from Stoke City to register a player and, subsequently, their squad list will be confirmed at a later date."
Stoke moved for Owen after he was released by Manchester United but the the 32-year-old appeared reluctant to entertain their advances amid suggestions he was waiting for a bigger club to pounce.
And although he was also linked with Liverpool and Sunderland, he insisted on Tuesday night he was "always keen to join" Tony Pulis' side.
After signing a one-year contract, he posted on Twitter: "Delighted to have signed for Stoke subject to Premier League approval.
"We have been in talks for a while and it was a club I was always keen to join.
"I'm particularly excited at the prospect of working under Tony Pulis.
"He has assembled a great squad that I look forward to joining.
"I'm now looking forward to contributing as much as possible to the club and can't wait to play in front of a great set of supporters.
"Thanks for your kind messages everyone. Can't wait to get going again!"
Stoke earlier announced an agreement had been reached with the former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle star on their official website.
"Stoke City have today won the race to sign England international striker Michael Owen on a free transfer, subject to Premier League Board approval," a statement read.
"The former Liverpool and Real Madrid hitman has penned a one-year deal at the Britannia Stadium, following his release from Manchester United at the end of the 2011/12 campaign."
Owen would become Stoke's seventh signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Jamie Ness, Geoff Cameron, Michael Kightly, Maurice Edu, Charlie Adam and Steven N'Zonzi.
Owen's time at United was dogged by injury problems but he scored 17 goals in 52 appearances during his three-year spell, including a famous winner in a 4-3 derby victory over Manchester City in 2009.
In total, Owen has scored 221 goals in 473 games in all competitions at club level, in addition to 40 goals in 89 appearances for England.

Olazabal surprised Mahan not on US Ryder Cup team
European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal is surprised Hunter Mahan has missed the United States team.
Olazabal, in Hilversum getting ready for this week's Dutch Open, was sure Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk would receive wild cards. U.S. captain Davis Love III gave the other two to Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker, passing over Mahan, a winner twice this year on the PGA Tour and part of the last five Ryder Cup teams.
Olazabal says, ''The only question mark as I see it was Snedeker picked ahead of Mahan, but then Davis has gone for form.''
