WrestleMania 28: How the Rock vs. John Cena Proves Cena's Critics Right

WWE referred to Rock vs. Cena as the biggest main event in the history of WrestleMania.

While it was intense and at times beautiful to watch, John Cena sullied a potential classic with his overeager, goofy antics.

There was no better opponent for the Rock's return than Cena.

That pairing created a buzz that rivaled Rock and Hogan.

Despite not wrestling for several years, the Rock was ready to go.  He jumped back into the routine seamlessly.

The moment was right, the players were right.  John Cena held it back.

The initial faceoff could have been an iconic moment we saw on highlights for years to come.  Instead of approaching it with intensity, Cena played the giddy kid who can't stand still.

In the ring he did fine, but the Rock outclassed him, dwarfing Cena with his star power.

Cena is one of the most frustrating wrestlers to watch.

There are nights, with the right partner, that he turns his match into a spectacle you cannot look away from.

Versus CM Punk at Money in the Bank 2011, Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 23 and Umaga at the 2007 Royal Rumble, he proved his greatness.

And then there are the times that he grins and goofs off and is too much like a kid on a sugar high than a man in a fight.

Against the Rock, he didn't match intensity with the Brahma Bull and he didn't live up to the moment.

This was his night to carve out the clear best match of the night, to show why he's been crowned the king of the main event.

Had he done half of what Chris Jericho and Triple H did in defeat, the post-WrestleMania conversation would be more about John Cena than the Rock.

And maybe a few Cena-haters would climb off his back.

Ryan Leaf: from draft bust to busted (again)

Back in 1997, Ryan Leaf was on top of the world. Just in his junior year, the standout QB out of Washington State was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, and all the stars seemed to be perfectly aligning for this young man to become a household name in the NFL.
He was selected 2nd overall in the 1998 Draft by the San Diego Chargers, just after Peyton Manning. Back then, the Colts had a tough decision to make: Leaf or Manning. The thought around the league was that they couldn’t go wrong with either QB.
It’s safe to say they made the right decision. One is basking in a new $96 million dollar contract with the Denver Broncos and the other is scrounging for bail money.
Leaf’s injury laden career was short to say the least, and it is often regarded by most as the No. 1 draft bust in the history of the NFL.

Torres caps Chelsea victory at Villa

Fernando Torres scored his first Barclays Premier League goal for six months as Chelsea revitalised their hopes of securing a Champions League spot with victory at Aston Villa.

The Blues looked to be cruising as Daniel Sturridge and Branislav Ivanovic earned them a 2-0 lead, only for Villa to rally through goals from James Collins and Eric Lichaj.

But Ivanovic's second goal of the game and then Torres' injury-time finish enabled Roberto Di Matteo's side to close the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to two points.

It was an emotional atmosphere at Villa Park after skipper Stiliyan Petrov was diagnosed yesterday with acute leukaemia.

Petrov attended the game before starting treatment for the illness on Monday and was applauded by both sets of fans.

He had witnessed Chelsea not being over-extended by a Villa side lacking eight senior players through illness or injury until their late revival.

It was Chelsea's sixth win in eight games under Di Matteo ahead of next week's Champions League return clash with Benfica.

Villa's inexperienced line-up showed plenty of spirit but still need a few more points to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.

The first clearcut chance fell to Chelsea striker Torres and he failed to take advantage.

David Luiz slipped a through ball to the Spaniard, who found himself with only Shay Given to beat but the Villa keeper was quickly off his line to block the shot.

Chelsea were not to be denied and after nine minutes went ahead through Sturridge's 12th goal of the season.

Salomon Kalou cut in from the left and picked out Juan Mata, whose shot was blocked by Given.

The rebound fell to Torres, who was denied by a last-ditch tackle from Stephen Warnock, but Sturridge converted the loose ball from close range.

Villa were fortunate when a fierce drive from Mikel deflected off James Collins straight into the hands of Given.

Collins had a chance at the other end when attacking a Barry Bannan corner but could not keep his header down.

Mata came close to making it 2-0 when his shot struck a post and Torres' follow-up attempt was blocked by Collins.

Sturridge was looking full of confidence and cut in from the left, forcing Given to make a low save.

Then two minutes before the interval a superb save from Petr Cech kept Chelsea ahead.

Weimann played the ball to Agbonlahor, who spun sharply 10 yards out before firing in a powerful low drive.

But Cech somehow managed to deflect the shot over the bar to deny Agbonlahor a first goal in 15 Premier League games.

After 51 minutes Ivanovic doubled Chelsea's lead. Torres attacked a near post corner from Mata and looked to get a slight touch on the ball before it fell to Ivanovic.

The defender made no mistake in turning the ball past Given.

Warnock became the first player to be yellow carded for a late challenge on Chelsea skipper John Terry.

Mata curled a long range free-kick over the bar and Torres glanced a header wide.

Collins gave Villa a lifeline with 14 minutes remaining when he headed a long throw from Lichaj past Cech.

Then four minutes later Villa Park erupted when Lichaj equalised for Alex McLeish's side.

Albrighton was the creator with a dangerous low ball across the Chelsea six-yard box and Lichaj made no mistake at the far post.

But Villa were again caught out at a corner in the 82nd minute when Ivanovic restored Chelsea's lead.

Malouda floated the ball into the danger area and no-one picked up Ivanovic as he headed past Given.

Then in time added on Torres scored his first Premier League goal for six months when he beat Given with a low drive.

Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov watched from the stands, a day after it was announced he is suffering from acute leukemia.

Kobe Bryant meets with 105-year-old Lakers fan

Most of us could never imagine living to see our 105th birthday. Frankly, most of us won’t. Laker fan Allene Wynn turned 105 years old earlier this week, and she celebrated by taking in the Lakers-Hornets game at the Staples Center on Saturday night. Prior to the game, Wynn got the chance meet her favorite player, Kobe Bryant.
“It just made me feel good all over to meet him in person,” Wynn said according to ESPNLosAngeles.com. “I’ve been wanting to meet him for years. I got to touch him. I shook hands with him and hugged him. I said, ‘Wait, let me hug you, baby.’”

Wynn said she watches the Lakers play any chance she gets and that her living room wall is plastered with Lakers memorabilia. Since she was a Laker fan before Kobe was even a thought, Wynn had no problem critiquing his game.
“I told him what I thought about his playing,” Wynn said. “I said, ‘You don’t play like I want you to play.’ I said, ‘I done came all the way over here and I don’t want to see none of that sorry stuff.’”
The Lakers were able to squeeze out an 88-85 victory over New Orleans, but Kobe scored only 11 points on 3-for-21 shooting. Perhaps he was still mesmerized after meeting Wynn prior to the game.

Who said Kobe was invincible? A mini-lecture from a 105-year-old fan can take anyone off their game. Mike Brown should arrange a meeting between Wynn and Andrew Bynum. If that can’t straighten him out, nothing will.

Bynum doesn't do team huddles

Although the random three-pointer that Bynum threw up in transition against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday seems like a thing of the past, it may have been just the beginning.
In a win against the Hornets on Saturday afternoon, Bynum had some interesting things to say in his post-game interview. Bynum’s comments to reporters could be described as a “passive-agressive” way to speak out against head coach Mike Brown and possibly his Laker teammates.
Here is some of what Bynum had to say in his postgame interview (via Lakers.com):

Question: What was Kobe like in the huddle in the 2nd and 3rd quarter as he was missing shots?
Bynum: I don’t know. I don’t take part in the huddles
Q: Is that True?
AB: Yes!
Q: Do you do that for a reason?
AB: No, im resting…getting my zen on.
…
Q: How were you able to only score two points in the first half?
AB: Man! Thats a great quesion! I need some more shots I think

Bynum would go on to say that he got enough looks. He said that he was looking to pass more as he wanted ten assists. Some may think he is joking or simply playing around with the media. However, a report from the Daily News on Thursday said Bynum has been “erratic” in the Lakers locker room in recent weeks:

Bynum’s shot was the latest in a catalogue of items that have annoyed Brown, his staff, the players and team management over the past few weeks. Brown had seen enough and decided to sit the 7-footer for all but 5 minutes, 17 seconds of the second half.
The 24-year-old Bynum has played loud music in the Lakers’ locker room, which has been frowned upon over the years. He also has been disrespectful to members of the coaching staff and to his teammates for about the past three weeks.

Bynum not taking part in huddles has to be taken as a sign of disrespect to first-year head coach Mike Brown. The Lakers won’t get too far without everybody on the same page, and by the looks of things they simply are not.
