At the end of the 2011-12 college football season, University of Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas surprised everyone when he declared for the NFL draft.
Darron told ESPN’s Joe Shad, “I am ready to go. I left on a good note with the Rose Bowl. And I am ready to further my life.”
Many people think Thomas was just chasing the money and that he will end up missing Oregon more than Oregon will miss Thomas.
I would tend to agree with this side of the argument for the reason that this upcoming draft is loaded with some highly-skilled quarterbacks. In the first round alone, quarterbacks Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, and Ryan Tannehill, are all projected to get drafted. Even with so much talent ahead of him, Thomas still has the skills that it takes to be successful in the NFL.
His size will be a big benefit for him standing a 6’ 3” and 217 lbs. He is very mobile and demonstrated his speed at Oregon, rushing for 206 yards in 2011 and 486 in 2010.
He has some solid arm strength, but his only serious imperfection as a quarterback is his inconsistent accuracy, which is something that can easily be worked on and fixed.
There will be many teams that might take a look at Thomas as they progress through the rounds but there are three teams that should take an extended look at and possibly draft him.
