2011 NBA Mock Draft: All 30 Picks, Derrick Williams Goes to Cavaliers at No. 2

2011 NBA Mock Draft Sees Cavaliers Eying Their Next Star in Derrick Williams

Arizona Wildcats forward Derrick Williams was already regarded as a top player in the country before he exploded in the NCAA Tournament last season.

After averaging 15.7 points and 7.1 rebounds in his freshman season, Williams averaged 19.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in 2010-2011, and his play in March Madness helped the Wildcats advance past Duke to the Elite Eight.

Beyond blocking a potential game-tying layup and hitting a game-clinching 3-pointer in the tournament, Williams posted 32 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and a block against the Blue Devils.

He was virtually unstoppable in his sophomore year.

Good Fit?

What better way to make up for the loss of LeBron James than draft a forward that some are actually calling a better prospect than Duke's Kyrie Irving? It's a no-brainer given the hole that James left upon his exit to South Beach.

Pro Potential

With his ability to hit the 3-pointer, Williams has all the makings of a versatile nightmare in the NBA. He not only dominated in the regular season last year, he played some of his best ball against some top teams in the country in the NCAA Tournament. He and Irving are the two superstars of this year's draft.

Pro Comparison?

People generally are comparing Williams to David West and Thaddeus Young, but I think those comparisons are misguided. Sure, he has a solid midrange game and a post game, but I think he projects more like a Danny Granger given his 3-point shooting ability.
