David Stern will go out amid a chorus of boos with one huge smile.
The NBA commissioner will soon walk to the podium to announce an NBA draft selection for the very last time.
Maybe it's just me, but the boos seem louder than they've been in the past, as if the fans understand this is their last moment to let Stern have it.
While the level of vitriol may be open to some conjecture, there is no doubt Stern is really enjoying this draft more than most, smiling and invigorating a rabid bunch in the stands.
Here he is basically telling fans to give him all they have:
I'm not the only one to notice, because all of Twitter is sounding off on a commissioner who seems so close to winking with each and every pick.
Stern continued to savor each and every boo bird blasting him from the cheap seats. He soaked boos up as if they were rays of sunshine on some future trip he might take in retirement.
In fact, I have never seen a man so happy to get booed.
Who said this draft was bereft of stars?
As of this writing, there were no trades and very few astonishing surprises outside of Anthony Bennett being taken first overall.
Well, in walked Stern with his smirk and long pauses that seemed to be a bull's eye for all the fans' boos. So far, the biggest star of the night has been Stern.
We hate to see you go, but damn, we love to see how you call it a career.
