Ryan Leaf: from draft bust to busted (again)

Back in 1997, Ryan Leaf was on top of the world. Just in his junior year, the standout QB out of Washington State was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, and all the stars seemed to be perfectly aligning for this young man to become a household name in the NFL.
He was selected 2nd overall in the 1998 Draft by the San Diego Chargers, just after Peyton Manning. Back then, the Colts had a tough decision to make: Leaf or Manning. The thought around the league was that they couldn’t go wrong with either QB.
It’s safe to say they made the right decision. One is basking in a new $96 million dollar contract with the Denver Broncos and the other is scrounging for bail money.
Leaf’s injury laden career was short to say the least, and it is often regarded by most as the No. 1 draft bust in the history of the NFL.
