Earthquakes too strong for Whitecaps

Chris Wondolowski scored twice and Alan Gordon added a goal in a 10-minute span midway through the second half to help the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on Saturday.

San Jose improved to 4-1, while Vancouver dropped to 2-1-2.

Wondolowski tied it at 1 in the 68th minute, Gordon gave the Earthquakes the lead in the 72nd, and Wondolowski completed the scoring in the 78th with his sixth goal of the season.

Sebastien Le Toux scored for Vancouver in the 49th minute.

Wondolowski's first goal ended the Whitecaps' season-opening shutout streak at 427 minutes, six more than previous mark set by New York in 2007.
