NBA Free Agency 2012: Where Will Jason Kidd Play Next Season?

One NBA veteran looking to continue his amazing basketball career is point guard Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd has been playing in the NBA since 1994 when he was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, although he also spent time with both the Phoenix Suns and the New Jersey Nets before his second stint in Dallas.

However, it was during his second stint with Dallas, that Kidd got the chance to win an NBA championship in 2011 after making two consecutive attempts with the Nets (although losing both times). Kidd will become an unrestricted free agent come July 1 and is looking at all of his options.

Although he is 39 years old, Kidd may be in a better position to continue his career if he is willing to come off the bench and play limited minutes for a contending or at least a playoff bound team.

The Dallas Mavericks could re-sign Kidd to a smaller contract but the team may look to go in a different direction and put youth around veteran Dirk Nowitzki. Kidd could be asked to “mentor” as a backup, but at this time it is tough to tell who that Mavericks point guard of the future is going to be come next season.

According to a report in the Arlington Heights Daily Herald, Kidd has considered making a return to the Brooklyn Nets as well as looking at teams that need to solidify depth at the point guard position.

For example the Chicago Bulls (who could be without Derrick Rose for a good part of the 2012-13 NBA season due to a knee injury suffered in the playoffs).

Furthermore Kidd may look to play behind Deron Williams (wherever he decides to sign) which may give him a chance to play on a contending team to finish out his professional basketball career.

At the end of the day Kidd will find a role with some team since he is willing to play less minutes and can still find a way to be involved in the offense.
