ESPN.com’s Dana O’Neil recently polled 15 coaches in order to find out some of the ”one’s that got away” and “the best discovery.” When asked about the one that got away, Pitino mentioned Louisville native and current NBA All-Star Rajon Rondo.

The one that got away: Rajon Rondo. “We took Sebastian Telfair instead. We should have waited. I always loved Rondo. He was at my camp every year, but a point guard had never gone directly to the NBA so I didn’t see that coming with Telfair. And then not only did we lose [Rondo], we lost him to a bitter rival.”
During Rondo’s two-year stint at Kentucky, I never really felt like we missed out on much.
