TNA News: Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray Help Push Viewership Higher

For some reason or another, wrestling weddings have the ability to help produce higher viewership. In TNA Wrestling's case, Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray were the right couple to make that happen for Impact! Wrestling.

With a heavily hyped show around Hogan and Ray's wedding, the Thursday, Jan. 17 edition of Impact! Wrestling saw a boost in viewership (via TV By the Numbers).

Impact! Wrestling had 1.6 million viewers and scored a 0.5 rating share in adults 18-49, which represented an increase from last week's edition. Last week's show produced 1.3 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in adults 18-49.

On Thursday night, NBA Basketball on TNT took the No. 1 spot on cable television's Top 50 list with 3.55 million viewers and a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49. MTV's Buckwild captured the No. 2 spot on cable television Thursday night.

My Quick Take on Impact! Wrestling's Viewership Increase

After consistently garnering the same viewership numbers throughout 2012, Impact! Wrestling is beginning to see its numbers rise very early in 2013. The heavily hyped wedding could certainly be a factor as to why TNA saw an increase in viewership this week.

The decision to turn Tazz heel and join Aces and Eights was also a good and unpredictable move by TNA. Although Tazz may be extremely limited to take part in any physical confrontation, his microphone skills are good enough to help the heel fraction gain credibility. It should be interesting to see how TNA approaches this decision to turn Tazz into a heel.

For Spike TV, Impact! Wrestling's early rise in viewership has to be a promising sign for what it is trying to accomplish with its newest show, Bellator Fighting Championship.  With having Impact! Wrestling as the lead-in show to Bellator Fighting Championship on Thursday nights, Spike TV must give TNA a very strong push in hopes of raising its viewership levels.
