World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has yet to win her first major tournament.
An injury to her left wrist—which she suffered during her match against Agnieszka Radwanska in at the Sydney International—has threatened to derail her chances of taking the title in the first major of the season, the Australian Open.
Wozniacki narrowly retained her spot at the top of the women's game thanks to second-ranked Petra Kvitova's loss in Sydney.
She has now stated, however, that she expects to be at full strength for her first-round match at the Australian Open on Monday.
I've been pretty lucky with injuries. I've had some small ones also with the ankles and things. But obviously you want to be 100 percent healthy. I feel confident that my wrist will be okay for Monday. I really felt the sharp pain, I was a bit concerned. But now it feels good, so I'm okay. But that's a great thing for me to know, then I can compete at a 100 percent.
The Dane has not suffered many significant injuries in her career. She has since admitted that she "should maybe not have finished the match [against Radwanska]." She said it was difficult for her to do so because she "wanted to try to do [her] best out there."
It is important that she is at her best from the start of the tournament. She has several dangerous opponents in her quarter, including Christina McHale, who defeated her in Cincinnati last season, and Li Na, who defeated her at last year's Australian Open.
Will Wozniacki be healthy for the Australian Open? Will she win her first major in Oz?
