The 2011 Texas Longhorns will be dependant on constant contributions from several true freshmen this season. One of these guys, is LaMarque’s Julien Lewis, who has proven time and again to be one of the most prolific true scorers in high school basketball in Texas over the past few years.
The standing question is whether, and how quickly, this same explosive offensive production can translate to the fast-paced Division I game. There are growing pains for any new collegiate athlete, and Julien Lewis is sure to experience these, but he has the skill set to be a quick contributor to Rick Barnes’ squad.
If Julien Lewis has a reputation, it is as a pure scorer, with a little bit of an edge. Lewis can score in droves, and single-handedly lead his LaMarque team in 2010 to within inches of a 4A state championship. Lewis’ ability to slash defenses, finish in traffic, and control the flow in the open court should make him a very nice asset for Texas in 2011.
