Verlander's brother has huge game
Full disclosure...I didn't even know the was another Verlander, but on Saturday, Ben Verlander made his name known. The Old Diminion outfielder (and younger brother of, you guessed it, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander) went 4-for-4 with three home runs as the Monarchs topped Northeastern 10-8. And since you were wondering, yes, the three homers tied a school record, and his seven RBI were one shy of a school record. Not too shabby. So far this season, the younger Verlander is now hitting .500/.520/1.167 with two triples, four homers, nine RBI and 10 runs in 25 plate appearances. In 2010, he was a 46th round draft pick by the Tigers, but, obviously, opted to take his game to college. And, ladies, in case you were wondering, the 21-year-old's favorite foods, according to his bio...chicken pot pie and and mint chocolate chip ice cream.
