Justin Upton hits homer over the scoreboard

In Thursday night's Nationals-Braves game, new Atlanta left fielder Justin Upton unloaded on an 86 mph Dan Haren cutter, sending the first pitch he saw in his sixth inning at bat out of the park for a homer. But the fact that Upton homered is only half oft he story. Upton's monstrous homer not only left the yard, but also cleared the scoreboard in left center field at Champion Stadium. It was his fifth homer of the spring, giving the Braves three players with five homers this spring (with Freddie Freeman and Juan Francisco joining Upton). No other team has three players with five, but three have two: the Phillies (Ryan Howard, Domonic Brown), Mariners (Michael Morse, Kendrys Morales), and Astros (Brandon Laird, Jason Castro). Oddly, three of those four teams play their spring games in Florida, when Arizona is typically the offensive hotbed. [follow]
