He's not the most electrifying athlete in sports entertainment history, but he might be the most polarizing.
John Cena, the man everyone either loves or hates, lost yet another main event at a WWE pay-per-view in 2012, this time at the hands of Dolph Ziggler (with a helping hand, er, shove, from AJ Lee) in the duo's ladder match for the Money in the Bank suitcase at TLC 2012 in Brooklyn, NY.
So what now for the 12-time world champion who appears to be at a fork in the road of his career?
Two paths lay before Cena, and while both are drastically different from each other, they both wind up at the same destination.
A match with The Rock at WrestleMania 29 for the WWE Championship.
Whether it's as a face or as a heel—a turn that has been widely debated, discussed and dissected yet has still not happened—it sure seems like Cena and The Rock are on a collision course for a rematch of their bout from WrestleMania 28.
But if ever Cena was going to turn heel, this is the time to do it.
Think about it. Fresh off of being screwed at TLC by AJ, a year's worth of pent-up frustration finally boils over, sending Cena into a fit of rage.
It wouldn't be a difficult angle to sell.
Regardless of which road Cena travels—face or heel—it doesn't change the fact that The Rock and CM Punk are set to face off for Punk's WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble.
The Rock is going to win that match.
Cena, without having the Money in the Bank briefcase in his possession, has only two ways of getting back into the championship picture: to convince the powers that be to make The Rock vs. Punk a Triple Threat match, or to win the Royal Rumble.
Cena won't get into the championship match at the rumble, which leaves him with only one option: win the actual rumble match, setting himself up for a rematch of last year's main event at WrestleMania: against The Rock.
A second feeding of Cena vs. The Rock may not be what people want to see, but Cena remains the WWE's biggest draw—and the chance to feature two of the biggest stars that the company has ever had at its disposal in the biggest match of the year is simply too enticing for it to pass up.
