Alvarez to coach in Rose Bowl
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, who retired after 16 seasons as the Badgers head coach in 2005, will return to the sidelines one last time when his team meets Stanford in the Rose Bowl on January 1st. Alvarez' headset and clipboard may be a little dusty, but he's got history on his side. He's the only coach in Wisconsin history to actually win the Rose Bowl, capturing the Granddaddy of Them All three times, in 1994, 1999 and 2000. The Badgers only other Rose Bowl appearances were losses in 1953, 1960, 1963, 2011 and 2012, with the two most recent coming under Alvarez' hand-picked successor Bret Bielema. Alvarez is the only Big Ten coach to win consecutive Rose Bowls (which seems absolutely impossible), and is one of only six coaches all-time to win the game three times.
