Zach Parise and Martin Brodeur were the two biggest names from the New Jersey Devils roster to test the NHL free-agent market beginning today.
According to ESPN.com, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild and Detriot Red Wings are all interested in bidding for Parise's services, with the Wings even sending representatives to the offices of Newport Sports to meet with Parise's agents.
The 27-year-old forward helped lead the underdog Devils to within two wins of a Stanley Cup last season and has recorded at least 30 goals in each of his last five full seasons (Parise missed all but 13 games of the 2010-11 season with a knee injury), making him the most sought-after free agent of the summer.
Also testing the free agent waters is longtime Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur, whose value could be bolstered by a strong regular season and stellar postseason performance.
The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer first took the net for the team during the 1991-92 season and broke in permanently two seasons later. He's been the backbone of the franchise since, winning three Stanley Cups and four Vezina Trophies.
