Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart took a moment to defend Kurt Busch on SiriusXM Satellite Radio's NASCAR channel Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
Busch was suspended for this weekend's race at Pocono Raceway after comments he made to Sporting News' reporter Bob Pockrass in response to a question following Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Busch's comments were caught on video.
On Monday, NASCAR suspended the Phoenix Racing driver for one race for the outburst, the latest in a series for Busch.
Stewart, a three-time series champion, took the opportunity on the radio show to question the nature of reporters' questions in NASCAR today. While he did acknowledge that Pockrass has logged long hours at the track, he offered the following defense of Busch, according to USA Today.
"I'll be honest, I liked (Busch's) answer," Tony Stewart said. "I kind of thought it was good when it pertains to Bob Pockrass. Bob's a decent guy. But there's just so many good things to write about in our sport. There's a couple of reporters that strictly want to be tabloid journalists. Unfortunately, he's one of them."
