Atlanta Falcons free agent middle linebacker Curtis Lofton has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The move brings stability to a defense which has been anything but stable. By bringing in Lofton, Mason Foster will move to outside linebacker, the position he played in college for Washington.
Lofton had his best statistical season out of his 4 total in 2011, amassing 147 tackles, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also added seven passes defended to go along with one forced fumble.
To compare those numbers in 2011 to Mason Foster?s rookie season, Lofton had 63 more tackles, one more interception and 5 more passes defended. The move is an obvious upgrade in terms of overall production, but Buccaneers fans should keep in mind Foster was a rookie and played in a system which Raheem Morris dictated as ?full speed?.
