The Oakland A's announced today that they have relieved Bob Geren of managerial duties effectively immediately
Bob Melvin, former manager of the Mariners and Diamondbacks, was named interim manager for the remainder of the season.
In Geren's four-plus seasons with the Athletics, he posted a record of 334-376 and a .470 winning percentage.
The A's are in the midst of a season-high nine-game losing streak and sit at the bottom of the AL West with a 27-36 record, eight games behind the Texas Rangers.
Melvin's first game as interim manger is tonight in Chicago when the A's take on the White Sox.
