NFL Honors 2012 Predictions: Jerome Simpson Flip Will Take Home Play of the Year

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson became a household name around the country on Christmas Eve when he landed a front flip over a Arizona Cardinals defender in the end zone for six points and a perfect 10.

Here's the acrobatic display in case you missed it.The spectacular score was without a doubt one of the season's best plays and will be the favorite to take home Play of the Year at the NFL Honors Saturday night (9:00 PM ET, NBC).

Although it lacked the significance of Victor Cruz's 99-yard touchdown catch or the heroics of Patrick Peterson's game-winning and ending punt return score, those who have watched it over a month ago still cannot explain it.

NFL fans voted the play the best of the best on ESPN's SportsCenter for more than a month. It took LeBron James jumping over someone to knock it off the top spot after weeks of domination.

It was simply a play that will never be seen again.

Lawrence on Twitter has high praise for Simpson's athletic, eye-popping touchdown. Lawrence makes a great point: How many times has a player landed an attempted hurdle over another player, let a lone a front flip?

Injury-prone cyclist James Hartnett believes Simpson's move was the NFL's moment of the year for 2011.James is not alone in believing Simpson's legendary flip was the moment of the year—most experts and fans agree, and that's why the jaw-dropping touchdown leap will take home Play of the Year honors on Saturday night.

Chelsea vs Manchester United: A Torres Goal and More Bold Predictions

While most of America will be enthralled with football on Super Bowl Sunday, the rest of the world will likely be paying attention to soccer.

That's because Chelsea hosts Manchester United in what is one of the world's biggest rivalries. United is still battling Manchester City for the top of the table, while Chelsea is barely holding on to that all-important No. 4 spot.

This is going to be a huge match for both squads, and emotions will be running high. Here's a look at some bold predictions for Sunday's other showdown.

Fernando Torres Finds the Net

Usually with a forward this wouldn't be seen as a bold prediction, but for Torres, who hasn't scored since he put two in the back of the net against Genk back in October, it is.

What's more, the Spaniard has looked even worse as of late, as he's only gotten off one shot in his last two appearances, although that comes after a nice run in which he was getting good looks at the target.

But, he's finally going to get one through against Ben Amos or David De Gea. Man U has struggled to find consistent goalkeeping, and it won't matter who is there on Sunday.

Rooney Gets a Hat Trick

Wayne Rooney, along with Nani and Ashley Young, is set to return from injury on Sunday and the timing couldn't be worse for Chelsea.

The Blues will be without Ashley Cole, who is suspended due to his red card against Swansea, and John Terry, who was ruled out today.

That's a lot of weapons against a depleted back line. I'm betting Rooney is the one who benefits, even if he doesn't go the full 90.

3-3 Draw

Combine Chelsea's injuries in the back with Man U's inconsistent goalkeeping, and you've got an exciting, high-scoring match on your hands.

Chelsea hasn't given up many goals as of late, but they haven't faced an attack like United's, either.

On the other side of the ball, the Red Devils are solid on defense, but in their last five road games (and that includes a shutout against Fulham), Man U has given up almost two goals per game. That's very un-Devil like.

Playing at Stamford Bridge can be tough, and I wouldn't be surprised if United makes a few silly errors that lead to goals.

Chris Canty Guarantees a Giants Super Bowl Victory

Chris Canty, you gotta be kidding me. He didn't say the big "g" word, but he might as well have. "Get ready for a great day on Super Bowl Sunday? and get ready for a parade on Tuesday." is what he said, and apparently he has no problem with it.

I'm willing to bet some of his teammates and probably a great deal of Giants fans have a problem with it. "I don't care, doesn't matter," he said..."Obviously, Tom Brady made a statement at their pep rally. Obviously, both teams are here to try to win a football game. It just is what it is."

...andhe goes on a littlemore about it, seemingly knowing he just stepped into something he regrets and needs to over explain it to justify it in his head. "I'm not trying to inflame anybody or anything like that," he said. "I want our fans to be excited about the game that's coming up on Sunday. It's going to be a great football game. It's going to be a 60-minu...

Matt Barkley and USC poised for a championship run in 2012

Despite the two-year Bowl ban, the NCAA sanctions, and no reason to play for in 2011, Lane Kiffin and Matt Barkley guided the USC Trojans to a surprising 10-2 record with road wins over Notre Dame and a thrilling 38-35 victory over the Oregon Ducks with their only losses coming to Arizona State early in the season and a triple overtime loss to Andrew Luck and the Stanford Cardinal. Sophomore wide receiver Robert Woods led the PAC 12 in receptions and freshman wide out Marquise Lee emerged as a top flight No. 2 receiver opposite of Woods and led the PAC 12 in receiving yards. The big reason for USC?s bounce back year was their much improved defense. Freshmen Dion Bailey and Hayes Pullard led a lightning fast line backing corp that were quick to the ball, great tacklers and ball hawks that helped the defense to a No. 5 ranking in defensive scoring in the PAC 12. Defensive coordinator Monty Kiffin simplified his Tampa 2 scheme and the fact that practice included tackling this year cont...
