Monster truck teen takes sport to new heights
College Basketball 10 teams that could improve or falter in March
Duke- They?ve been phenomenal so far this season and have already won three games against top five opponents, but I?ve noticed something very disturbing about this team- they have no bench. Their starting line-up displays the perfect blend of youth and experience and has proven they can beat anyone, but as the year goes on players get tired legs and can get figured out bit. Duke has recently been susceptible to the early knockout in the tournament, and it?s usually against smaller, hungrier schools. Mason Plumlee finally looks like the All-American he was recruited to be, so as long as he continues to play at this level Duke could make a run, but they?ll need more than six bench points if they want to remain a force going forward.
Creighton- They had a nice win against Wisconsin only to lose to Boise State the game after. Doug McDermott is the real deal, which allows them to compete against anyone, but their overall athleticism and play-...

Colts vs. Lions: Spread Info, Line and Predictions
In a matchup of prolific young quarterbacks, Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts will travel to Detroit to face Matthew Stafford and the Lions this Sunday.
Luck has surpassed his lofty rookie expectations, leading the Colts to a 7-4 record and the No. 5 seed in the competitive AFC. He ranks seventh in the league in passing yards (3,205), and his five rushing touchdowns puts him ahead of star running backs Chris Johnson (four) and Jamaal Charles (three).
Luck is tied for the third-most interceptions in the league with 13, but his turnovers haven't hurt the Colts in close games. Indy is 6-1 in games decided by seven points or less, and Luck has led the Colts to victories in six of their last seven games.
Meanwhile, the Lions have crumbled in recent weeks, dropping three straight games. After losing back-to-back contests against NFC North rivals, they fell 34-31 (OT) to the Houston Texans in a Thanksgiving Day thriller.
Stafford leads the NFL in passing yards (3,429), but he hasn't been able to lead his team to success in close games like Luck. The Lions have lost their last three games by an average of just 5.6 points, and each of their seven losses have been by 10 points or less.
These numbers don't bode well for Detroit, as this game will likely come down to the wire. Luckily for the Lions, they will have Ndamukong Suh, who was fined—but not suspended—for his kick to Matt Schaub's groin last week.

Fantasy Big Plays
Colts: Andrew Luck, QB
The Colts offense is devoid of major fantasy contributors, but Luck is definitely a solid option this week. He's averaged 306.2 yards per game in his last five outings, and he's a threat to find the end zone through the air or on the ground.
He's also facing a defense that gave up 315 yards and a touchdown to Matt Schaub on Thanksgiving and 236 yards and two TDs to Aaron Rodgers the week before. Unless you have a top-three QB on your roster, give the start to Luck this week.
Projected stats: 23-of-41 for 276 yards and two touchdowns; five carries for 24 yards
Lions: Calvin Johnson, WR
Johnson is a must-start every game, as he's fifth in the league in catches (73) and first in receiving yards (1,257). This week is no different, as he should be able to find pockets in an Indy defense that ranks 19th in passing yards allowed (233.8 per game) and is tied for 22nd in passing TDs allowed (19).
Johnson has only scored four touchdowns this season, but he's found the end zone in each of the last three games. Definitely start him this Sunday.
Projected stats: seven catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns
Key to Victory: Fourth-Quarter Execution
As I mentioned above, these two teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as success in tight games. When the score is close in the fourth quarter, Indy has thrived, while Detroit has often wilted.
The Colts certainly aren't as good as Houston, and I'd put the battle-tested Packers and Bears ahead of them as well. That said, if Detroit struggles once again to execute late in the fourth quarter, they will lose their fourth straight.
Prediction
This should be an excellent game, and I'm expecting a strong offensive output from both teams. The rushing attacks leave plenty to be desired, but with two exciting quarterbacks and a couple of explosive receivers, this should be an aerial lover's dream.
At the end of the day, I'm going to give the advantage to the Lions, who are in full-on desperation mode. After two weeks of barely losing to top-tier teams, they should be ready to come out hot against a young Colts team that's mostly been feasting on bottom-dwellers.
It will be close, but I'm expecting Indy to drop to 2-4 on the road as the Lions pick up a much-needed victory.
Final Score: Lions 30—Colts 24

Has Ryan Tannehill Officially Hit the Rookie Wall?
Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has had a season of exceeded expectations in his rookie campaign. However, the two games prior to his fourth quarter against Seattle in Week 12 have prompted a concerning question for Miami.
Has Ryan Tannehill hit the rookie wall?
It's a legitimate question to ask of Tannehill, considering that neither Andrew Luck nor Robert Griffin III have seemed to hit any such wall. The same argument could be made for Seattle's Russell Wilson and Cleveland's Brandon Weeden.
None of them have struggled in the prolific way that Tannehill struggled in his two games against the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills.
During that four-day stretch, Tannehill seemed to regress to being the type of player that a lot of experts predicted he would be.
Now before looking at those two bad games that tend to exist on an island, let's first look at the rest of Tannehill's body of work prior to those two games, which has been quite exceptional for the most part.
Tannehill threw for 1,762 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions. Is this amazing? By no means, but keep in mind that three of those six interceptions came in Miami's Week 1 loss to Houston in a game marred by pass deflections thanks to now-MVP candidate J.J. Watt.
Miami's record over that stretch was 4-3, and had it not been for Dan Carpenter's missed field goals in Week 3 against the New York Jets or Week 4 against Arizona, it could've easily been 6-1.
Now let's take a look at after Tannehill's stretch, which saw the former Aggie notch his first ever fourth-quarter comeback against the Seattle Seahawks.
Tannehill would throw for 253 yards, a touchdown and an interception in that game, but his biggest contribution came in the fourth quarter where he shredded a Seattle pass defense that is ranked third in the NFL against the pass to the tune of Miami outscoring the Seahawks 17-7 in the final period.
But his two games against Tennessee and Buffalo will stick out like a sore thumb, mainly because of the fact that these two teams possess two of the NFL's worst defenses.
Buffalo is currently ranked 18th in the league against the pass, which is about average. Tennessee, on the other hand, is ranked an atrocious 27th in the league against the pass.
The surprising stat that started most of this talk about Tannehill possibly hitting the rookie wall was the fact that it was against those Titans where Tannehill had perhaps his worst game of the season. In that game, Tannehill completed 59 percent of his passes, but only managed to throw for 217 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions (with two of those interceptions being returned by the Titans for touchdowns.
The following week against Buffalo (only four days later, actually), Tannehill managed to throw two interceptions; however, both of them came in late-game situations where Miami had a chance to win the game.
It's clear from his two performances against Buffalo and Tennessee that Tannehill did hit some kind of rookie wall, but part of the reason for those failings was an offensive line so atrocious that on Miami's report cards for those games, the unit received more F's than anyone would accept from their child.
To add to that, in both games Miami's running game was stymied by two horrendous run defenses and couldn't seem to buy a yard. The infamous Reggie Bush benching occurred during Miami's contest against Tennessee.
But after that, Ryan Tannehill would recover, putting up perhaps his best overall game against one of the best defenses in the league. It's safe to say that Tannehill has officially hit the rookie wall, but against Seattle, he managed to climb over it, further showing the kid's tenacity as well as his talent.

Woods not interested in European membership
Woods had floated the possibility while in Turkey last month, especially now that the tour would count the Ryder Cup toward the minimum requirement of 13 events for membership. When asked about it Tuesday, Woods said, ''I'm not going to play the European Tour next year.''
He says even adding a few extra tournaments would be too much for him.
Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald have won the money titles on the European Tour and PGA Tour in the last two years. Woods could have done that at least four times in the last decade if he had been a member. He says that was never important to him, and it might have detracted from his preparation for the majors.

Fulham Boss Backs Benitez to Succeed at Chelsea
Chelsea take on Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening and Cottagers manager Martin Jol has had some words of encouragement for under-fire Blues boss Rafael Benitez.
The Spaniard was made interim manager after last week’s sacking of Roberto Di Matteo and was booed and jeered during his first game in charge, a 0-0 draw with Manchester City, on Sunday.
But Jol has backed Benitez to succeed in West London, claiming the hostility will stop as soon as he starts to get results.
According to the Fulham & Hammersmith Chronicle, the Dutchman told his Friday press conference:
He [Di Matteo] was much appreciated there because he did well as a player and, I think, he did well as a manager. It [Di Matteo’s sacking] was not a decision that everyone could understand so you get this sort of thing. But Rafa Benitez is a true professional and he's been in the business a long time, so he will be tough enough.
Many Chelsea fans are unhappy with some comments Benitez made about the Blues and their supporters when he was at the helm at Liverpool. Jol said:
I don't think I've experienced it before in my career, but of course he was at Liverpool, a big club, and probably said a few things about Chelsea. I have done that in the past, because you are like a chameleon, you know. You get the colours of the club you are in and that is what he did. But I think a couple of wins and he will win them over. Hopefully it won't start [against Fulham].
Chelsea will be boosted by the fact Fulham are without winger Bryan Ruiz through injury and centre-half Brede Hangeland, who is still suspended for tonight’s clash at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues welcome Gary Cahill back into the squad after he missed Sunday’s game against Man City, but Daniel Sturridge, Frank Lampard and John Terry are still unavailable.

USC Football: The NCAA and the Curious Case of Todd McNair
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Frederick Shaller has found evidence to suggest the NCAA showed "actual malice" in its investigation of former USC assistant coach Todd McNair during the NCAA investigation into improprieties surrounding Reggie Bush.
With those two words, scores of USC alumni, boosters, trustees, administrators, students and fans let out a whoop of joy knowing that the country would soon know what the USC faithful have known all along—that the NCAA is a crooked, criminal, corrupt agency with no oversight, no precedence to follow, which acts with malice and bias based on who sits on their Committee on Infractions at any particular point in time.
May Paul Dee roast in hell. For a little back story (though I doubt any readers need to be reminded) Paul Dee, former Miami Athletic Director who presided over some of the most egregious shenanigans in his school’s history—was the head of the Committee on Infractions while the NCAA’s investigation into USC was happening.
Oh, the irony, as the allegations at Miami, in my opinion are much much worse than anything that may or may not have happened at USC. Yet Mr. Dee slammed USC with “lack of institutional control.”
It seems the true lack of institutional control label should be applied to the NCAA itself rather than to USC, SMU, Alabama, Penn State, Miami, Oregon, Auburn or any other of the schools currently or formerly under investigation.
But I digress. Last Wednesday the news broke in Los Angeles that Shaller had denied the NCAA’s request to have McNair’s case dismissed. Shaller found, after reviewing the NCAA’s sealed documents pertaining to McNair’s inquiry, that the actions of the NCAA investigators in the case of McNair (and presumably, most if not all of the USC investigation) were “over the top.”
Oh how delicious. Look, it has long been the opinion of USC pundits and fans that McNair got a raw deal. So some justice being served while also forcing the NCAA to be transparent is a good thing. For that matter, why does the NCAA get to seal its own records? In any other hearing, the parties on both sides have the right to discovery.
Not so in the NCAA. This shadowy, corrupt organization conducts business as it sees fit. Shaller found the NCAA’s report on breaches in ethics by McNair to be very flawed, giving credence to the former USC assistant coach’s defamation lawsuit.
It should be noted that Shaller’s undergraduate degree is from USC. This is not considered a conflict of interest.
It has been reported by both the Los Angeles Times, CBS Sports and USCFootball.com that the NCAA is aggressively trying to keep its investigation documentation under seal. Now come on, how fishy is that?
If the NCAA didn’t have anything to hide, it would not be fighting so hard to avoid being forced to release its documents.
The release of the documents surrounding the NCAA’s investigation of USC, McNair, Bush etc. would be like a Christmas gift for USC fans. I, for one, cannot wait to get my hands on them and see what really happened in that investigation.
Judge Shaller’s decision was made public last week and shows that, based on his review of the NCAA reports, at least three people may have tried to improperly influence the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions in its case against McNair. Shaller’s decision contains parts of emails that he has ruled show “ill will or hatred” towards the former USC assistant.
Judge Shaller’s decision reveals the detail and lengths the NCAA went to to build its case against McNair, which much of its case against Bush and USC hinged upon. The decision went on to say that the NCAA had a “reckless disregard for the truth.”
Digest that for a moment. Go ahead, feel glee. Feel vindication.
McNair attempted to sue the NCAA in 2011 and was denied. Shaller’s decision concluded that the NCAA showed “actual malice” in pursuing McNair, using false information produced by the NCAA to make its case. Dates were fudged, facts were faked, and the word of a convicted felon (Lloyd Lake) was determined to be credible while McNair was determined to be morally bankrupt. Shaller rejected all of this after his review of the documentation.
Shaller’s decision stated that the NCAA “should have known” parts of the infractions report were “demonstrably untrue.”
Holy cow.
Judge Shaller has said that he will unseal the NCAA’s inquiry into McNair. Of course the NCAA has 30 days to appeal, but assuming (oh please!) the NCAA is denied that appeal based on Shaller’s decision, the public would have access to the files that would show the process the NCAA took to slam USC with sanctions in the Bush case.
Now, let’s deal for a brief moment in UNCONFIRMED RUMORS from multiple sources close to the USC football program.
Again-these are simply rumors—but they are too delicious to ignore.
- Supposedly the USC Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to sue the NCAA.
- Supposedly Pat Haden has told Lane Kiffin to “go for 25” (recruits, rather than the 15 USC is allowed under current scholarship sanctions).
This is all very interesting, and I don’t know about you, but the unsealing of the NCAA reports and investigation is something I cannot wait for. The proverbial poop is hitting the fan where the NCAA is concerned.
It is so fitting that it could be USC to take this corrupt governing body of college athletics down.

Hollins named Big Ten Player of the Week
Hollins had his breakout game against his hometown team, as he grew up in Memphis. His 41-point effort helped the Gophers beat the Tigers 84-75 in their second game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. In that game, Hollins was 12-for-16 from the field, including a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range. He also made 12 of his 13 free-throw attempts.
Through seven regular-season games, Hollins is second on Minnesota in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game. Only senior forward Rodney Williams is averaging more per game (14.1).
Hollins is the first Gophers player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors since forward Trevor Mbakwe did so in November of 2010.
After winning two of three games in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament thanks in large part to Hollins the Gophers now face Florida State on the road Tuesday.

EPL Soccer: West Ham hooligans? anti-Semitism brings league to new low
Anti-semitism is a term that is rarely used outside of textbooks and museums, much alone connected with sports. It?s a term associated with World War II and history rather than latest headlines at the Telegraph.
Yesterday after Tottenham?s 3-1 defeat of West Ham United reports came from White Hart Lane that West Ham supporters had initiated anti-semitic chants and mockery towards the Spurs? home crowd.
The London Derby between the clubs has been always known for it?s intensity on the pitch and in the stands, but Sunday?s incidents went beyond rivalry.
A minority of traveling West Ham supporters were seen giving Nazi salutes and singing negative songs related to another anti-Semitic crime against Tottenham fans last week in Italy.

Redknapp: QPR my toughest challenge
The former Tottenham boss has taken over a side rooted to the foot of the table, with just four points from 13 games and without a win all season.
He has saved Portsmouth from relegation and took a Tottenham side from bottom of the table to the Champions League the following season.
Be he said: "We mustn't kid ourselves, this is much tougher than those two jobs in my opinion, but I'm optimistic we can pull it off.
"I want to be successful here, really badly. I want to keep this team in the Premier League. If the players try as hard as I am going to try we'll be successful."
Redknapp confirmed a deal was being done to bring in long-time assistants Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond to assist him.
And he warned the players he would not tolerate a lack of effort.
"We've got to do better to give ourselves any chance of getting out of this mess," he said.

Pardew making transfer plans
Ahead of Sunday's trip to former club Southampton, the Magpies boss sees his side sat 14th in the Premier League after back-to-back defeats by West Ham United and Swansea City.
Newcastle, after finishing fifth last season, had ambitious plans of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in the current campaign but they have been hampered by squad problems.
Yohan Cabaye is having groin surgery, captain Fabricio Coloccini is suspended and Ryan Taylor, Dan Gosling and Haris Vuckic are all injured and the Senegalese Football Association blocked Papiss Cisse from playing against Swansea.
And Pardew may use the winter transfer window to find reinforcements, as he said: "If we get to January and we're in a vulnerable position, where we are now or lower, then we're going to need to have a little bit more thought about how we're going to go forward.

What's wrong with Roush Fenway?
Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth were so incredibly consistent throughout the regular season that it's hard to believe that the two Roush Fenway Racing entries competing in NASCAR's "playoffs" now sit in the Chase cellar after the first three races.
Yes, you can say that Roush has never been competitive at Chicagoland Speedway. And no, the organization hasn't quite been gangbusters at New Hampshire. But this is Dover for goodness sakes, a track where Jack Roush has nine wins, most recently with Kenseth last year.
But on Sunday, Roush's most recent winner asked if his crew "was trying to kill" him after a truck arm broke off the back of the No. 17 - for a second time on Lap 317. Fantasy Football Week 12: Top 20 Tight End Rankings
As a position group, tight ends have been recently disappointing in fantasy football. Most legitimate fantasy options have been inconsistent at best, but the New Orleans Saints’ Jimmy Graham (along with injured New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski) has been the gold standard at the position.
In his last four games, Graham has caught 26 passes for 310 yards and five touchdowns—including at least five catches and one score in each week.
Without Gronkowski for the foreseeable future, Graham’s reliability and dynamic play make him the No. 1 ranked tight end in every week that he’s healthy.
Four of the top five tight ends for Week 12 are of the blue-chip, big-name variety. Here’s who didn’t make the cut.

7. Jermichael Finley, Green Bay Packers (at New York Giants)
8. Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers (at Philadelphia Eagles)
9. Jermaine Gresham, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Oakland Raiders)
