Entering the 2011 US Open for the women, there were countless storylines. Serena Williams was coming off a great summer on the hardcourts of North America, Venus Williams was playing for the first time since Wimbledon, defending champion Kim Clijsters had withdrawn with an injury, and No. 1 player in the world Caroline Wozniacki was still chasing her first Major Championship.
