Verplank out for season after surgery

Scott Verplank is recovering from surgery to rebuild his left wrist and won't be playing for about five months.

The surgery last Friday came one month after Verplank was in contention on the back nine of the PGA Championship until coming up just short of the 17th green and taking double bogey.

He says his left wrist has been bothering him for two years, and there were times he didn't know if he would be able to play until he got to the first tee at a tournament. Verplank still managed to record three top-10 finishes and earn nearly $1.2 million.

He says the surgery went well and he hopes to return in February.
