NFL Roster Cuts 2011: Latest on Alex Brown, James Sanders and Other Cuts

As we approach the start of the NFL regular season, not all people will be happy to see the back of the preseason.

The process of cutting down NFL rosters has begun as teams look to hit the final 53 that they will carry into the regular season.

It is at this point of the year when those roster battles that have dragged on for the last few weeks will finally come to a close.

Like everything else in sports, there will be winners and there will be losers as some players find themselves looking for work elsewhere while others are moving into their new locker room.

Who Could Be Left Off The Blackhawks? Final Roster?

Heading into next month?s training camp, we already know a fair amount about how the roster could shape up for the Chicago Blackhawks.
We know who five of the top six will be. The top line on Opening Night will most likely feature Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, and Marian Hossa is slotted in on the right wing for the second line.
Along with those two, Patrick Sharp is a lock for the top six as well, we just don?t know if it will be as a center or a wing. New acquisition Andrew Brunette appears to be a guy who will spend most of his time in Chicago in the top six, as well.
Though he?s no top six lock, we also know Dave Bolland will be there. He could end up centering the second line, but the third line seems like a more likely destination for him. He could be playing between Bryan Bickell and Michael Frolik.
Then there?s the physical guys the Hawks brought in to join the forward lines this summer. Dan Carcillo won?t play every game, but he?ll be ...

Maryland tries to color coordinate stadium

We've all seen white outs or black outs - when fans are asked to all wear the same color to a game. To the University of Maryland, that's extremely too elementary. The Maryland administration is asking fans to wear one of the school's eight four colors to their first home game on Monday, September 5th. The game, an 8:00pm kick against the University of Miami, will be televised on ESPN. The only issue - it isn't a sell out yet. The ticket office is calling it "Operation 54K". Their advertisement reads, "Help the Terps sell out Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium by securing your seat for the home opener against Miami. Once you purchase your ticket, and your section's assigned t-shirt color on this chart and wear that color to the game. Fear the Turtle!" To me this looks like the athletic department is saying, "please, please, please help us sell out this game". And I'll be darned if this color scheme idea was created b...

Marchand eats cereal out of Stanley Cup

When Brad Marchand and the Bruins finally come to terms on a new deal, we might know what his first purchase could be -- some more milk for his grandmother. The Bruins winger had his day with the Stanley Cup on Monday, and Marchand started the day by having breakfast with the Cup. Marchand poured an entire box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch into the Cup followed by the better part of a quart of milk. It may not have been his Wheaties, but for at least one day, Cinnamon Toast Crunch was the breakfast of champions. It's still unclear whether...

Gomez pulls out of Germany squad

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has pulled out of Germany's 2012 European Championship qualifier against Austria and a friendly match against Poland due to groin problems.

The German football federation (DFB) said Sunday that Stuttgart striker Cacau has been called up to replace Gomez.

Gomez aggravated a muscle injury in his side's 3-0 win over Kaiserslautern on Saturday, when he scored two penalties in a hat trick.

Germany can qualify for next year's tournament in Poland and Ukraine with a win against Austria in Gelsenkirchen on Sept. 2. The friendly match takes place in Gdansk, Poland four days later.

Gomez has scored 19 goals in 47 appearances for Germany, while the 30-year-old Cacau has four goals from 17 matches.

2011 Fantasy Football PPR Mock Draft Results ? 5th Round

As has been the case in many mock drafts this summer, no tight ends went in this mock until the fifth round, but we did see four go in this round.

Jermichael Finley was the fourth tight end off the board, and while he’s had a slow camp, since returning from his knee injury, he did have a touchdown in his latest preseason game.

Finley will likely start the season slowly, so don’t be surprised if he looks very average, early on, unless he finds his way to the end zone.

Mock Results – Overall | 1st RD | 2nd RD | 3rd RD | 4th RD | 5th RD |

41. Dallas Clark (ADP 47.9)

As is the case with Reggie Wayne and all the Colts players, fantasy values won’t be the same if Peyton Manning isn’t on the field. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Dallas Clark is the least affected by what happens with Manning, as he’s the ideal possession receiver in this offense.

42. Ryan Mathews (ADP 53.7)

Look to Ryan Mathews maybe a round or two later in your draft than the fifth round. With Mike Tolbert fixed to be a factor in the running game, and the likely goal-line back, Mathews is going to have a hard time being a RB-2 on your team.

43. Brandon Lloyd (ADP 44.7)

Fantasy owners finally found out what Brandon Lloyd could do if he actually took his career seriously as he blew up last season.

With Kyle Orton back as the starting quarterback, Lloyd is a worthy WR-2 and should be viewed as such. Believe in Lloyd and he will reward you with respectable numbers at this point in your draft.

44. Antonio Gates (ADP 36.4)

With all due respect to the other tight ends around the league, Antonio Gates is still the top player to target at his position for fantasy football. Gates has had encouraging signs in his rehab, as he’s resumed practicing and has been active for a full week, without taking a day off to rest his foot.

45.  Jason Witten (ADP 43.8)

While Jason Witten will be one of the top reception leaders at the tight end position, his touchdown numbers are likely to stay under five with Tony Romo at quarterback. While the two are supposed to be best friends off the field, Romo sure doesn’t seem to want to take care of his body around the end zone.

46. Jermichael Finley (ADP 43.0)

Look for the Packers top tight end to be on the field in Week 1, but it will likely take him some time before he returns to the player we saw at the start of last season. It was encouraging to see Finley grab a touchdown in third preseason game, and he should be viewed as a top five option at his position for fantasy leagues.

47. LeGarrette Blount (ADP 32.1)

The Buccaneers will use LeGarrette Blount early and often, but he likely won’t catch over 20 receptions this year. While that hurts his PPR value, Blount is still a worthy RB-2 as he will clearly be used as a feature back and the goal-line runner.

48. Mike Williams (TB) (ADP 38.1)

Josh Freeman clearly favors Mike Williams in the passing game, and that connection will continue to be solid this year. I do expect Williams to go through a learning curve, as defenses start to pay more attention to him, but he should catch around 90 balls this year.

49. Knowshon Moreno (ADP 48.1)

Willis McGahee figures to be a thorn in Knowshon Moreno’s side this year, and I recommend you look to Moreno as a flex play option and not a RB-2. Word out of Denver has Moreno looking average in camp and McGahee will be the main option at the goal line.

50.Marques Colston (ADP 50.3)

No way should you look to Marques Colston at this point in your draft. The veteran is coming off his second microfracture knee surgery of his career and the fifth knee surgery in his five-year career. It’s time to bail on Colston and look to Lance Moore in the later rounds.

Oregon goes all-black with new unis

Nothing too crazy this time around

Georgia is going all-red, Boise State is going all-white, and Oregon is going all-black with their Nike Pro Combat uniforms this season. Given that this is Oregon we are talking about, I was surprised to see that these Pro Combat uniforms were pretty bland as far as extras go. Instead Oregon has a dark uniform that makes me think of Darth Vader clones with bright neon green gloves and trim. I like it, although I really liked Oregon’s bowl game Pro Combat uniform last season so this comes behind that for me.

QPR recruits Barton on free transfer

QPR has completed the signing of Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton on a four-year contract.

The 28-year-old was in the final year of his contract at St James' Park and made available on a free transfer recently after criticising Newcastle's recruitment policy via his Twitter account.

Barton passed a medical at QPR's training ground in Harlington on Thursday but left without penning a deal, tweeting that he needed "some thinking time and space" before making a decision.

Having mulled over the move overnight, Barton has now penned a deal with the west London club.

Barton's QPR debut could come against his former club on September 12.

"It's been quite a whirlwind, so to get things finally sorted and draw a line under it all is a great relief," he told the club's official website.

"The ambition of the club really impressed me.

"There's obviously a great set of lads here already and that's why they had such a great season in the Championship.

"The gaffer is talking about adding two or three more bodies and that, combined with the potential of the club and the new owners' ambitions, bodes really well for the future."

Barton becomes the first signing at QPR since AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes completed his takeover of the club last week.

Rangers boss Neil Warnock has since had little time to make his mark on the transfer market but is delighted to get the first of the five new faces he hopes to bring to Loftus Road before Wednesday's deadline.

"We've got a very, very good player on our hands," he said of Barton, who will wear the number 17 jersey.

"He's coming here to show people what he can do. He wants to get back into the England team.

"He's very enthusiastic. People will say one or two things about him, but they've said stuff about me in the past too, so I won't worry about that."

He added: "He's a winner. Even without the armband on, he's a captain every week.

"He's a lot better player than people give him credit for. Hopefully we can harness all his positive characteristics and get the best out of him.

"I think with Tony's backing and (vice-chairman) Amit [Bhatia] coming back on board this is a really positive step for the Football Club."

Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias said: "On behalf of everyone at Newcastle we wish to thank Joey for his on-field contributions to the team and we wish him every success for his future at Queens Park Rangers."

Pearl: NCAA made him example to other coaches

Bruce Pearl says he knows he is serving as the NCAA's example to other coaches of what not to do when facing investigation.

The former Tennessee basketball coach said Thursday he is glad Tennessee was not further punished for what he and his assistants did and he takes full responsibility for his mistakes.

But Pearl says he is disappointed in the length of his penalty and feels he should have gotten more credit for ultimately admitting he had lied.

The NCAA slapped Pearl with a three-year show-cause penalty. The move makes it harder for Pearl to get another college job because he is prohibited from recruiting during the next three years, and any school wanting to hire him would have to talk to the NCAA about removing that penalty.

Dana White Reveals That Anderson Silva Will Not Fight on UFC on FOX Card

UFC 134 will take place on Saturday, August 27th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A middleweight title fight between the champion Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami will headline the fight card. UFC President Dana White caught up with Ariel Helwani after arriving in Brazil, and one of the topics he covered was the rumors of who will (or won’t) headline the first UFC on FOX event.

In his interview with MMAFighting.com’s Helwani, White wasted no time in singing the praises of the Brazilian press and how quickly they improved their knowledge of MMA, commenting, "I wish the American media would do the same."

White then put to rest the rumors of Silva headlining the first UFC on Fox card that is booked for November 12 in Anaheim. "If he goes out and wins in 13 seconds he’s not considered for the FOX show." White would only reveal that he was working on the FOX main event before moving on to discuss the Mauricio Rua versus Forrest Griffin fight.

In closing, White spoke about Chael Sonnen and his decision to not corner his training partner, Yushin Okami. In the recent past, Sonnen has taken every opportunity possible to disparage many of Brazil’s biggest MMA stars, making him persona non grata in Brazil.

Els goes from top to bottom without losing hope

Ernie Els sure didn't look to be down in the dumps for someone who has tumbled so far in the FedEx Cup.

It was only a year ago that the Big Easy was the No. 1 seed going into the PGA Tour's postseason. He went to the top of the standings by winning a World Golf Championship in March, and stayed there for the next five months.

This year, he wasn't even sure he would make it to The Barclays, the playoff opener that starts Thursday at Plainfield.

Els was just outside the top 125 - the cutoff to make the FedEx Cup - and had to play last week in the Wyndham Championship to have any chance of making it. He tied for 30th and moved to No. 118.

Manchester United Transfer Rumours: Fergie Smart to Go Young with Mario Gotze

Sir Alex Ferguson is once again proving to be far beyond merely proficient in building trophy-winning club, this time in his pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze.

According to Adam Lione of Footy Bunker, the long-time Manchester United boss is in the midst of negotiations with the reigning champions of Germany's Bundesliga for the services of the 19-year-old wunderkind, though Gotze would appear set to remain in Dortmund for the immediate future.

However, that far from disqualifies the Red Devils from the pursuit of the phenomenal Germany international. If anything, Fergie may simply be laying the foundation for a deal to be struck next summer.

After all, neither side seems all that desperate for Gotze to move at this point.

The Borussians will need a player of Gotze's considerable gifts if they are to have any hope of contending in the upcoming UEFA Champions League as a draw from pot four.

As for Man U, the Red Devils may be better off waiting to see if 22-year-old Tom Cleverley can maintain the spectacular form he has shown thus far as the season progresses.

The emergence of Cleverley has brought Fergie's pursuit of another midfielder into question. United has been mentioned in connection with Inter Milan maestro Wesley Sneijder all summer, though his considerable wage demands have proven to be too fractious to the Red Devils' chemistry, especially given the fragile ego of star striker Wayne Rooney.

Should Fergie persist in his pursuit of another midfield talent, Gotze would represent not only a more affordable option, but also a more sensible one. A starlet of Gotze's pace, imagination and technical know-how would fit in perfectly with the youth movement that is currently afoot at Old Trafford, led by Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and Phil Jones.

Either way, Fergie is once again doing a masterful job of revamping a United side that looks destined to trump last season's Premier League champions by the end of term.

A move for Gotze would only further confirm Fergie's genius while strengthening the Red Devils' position atop the world of club football.

Nasri completes Manchester City move

Manchester City has sealed the signing of Samir Nasri from Arsenal on a four-year deal after he successfully underwent a medical.

The Gunners announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to sell the Frenchman to their Premier League rival as he had less than a year remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Nasri had played for Arsenal in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend but has now completed a switch to the Etihad Stadium for a fee in the region of 24million ($39.3million).

Roberto Mancini will be delighted to have landed Nasri after identifying him earlier in the summer as somebody that could strengthen City's midfield.

Mancini already has an array of attacking talent at his disposal but felt he needed further reinforcements to help City compete for silverware on several fronts.

The challenge for Nasri now will be to establish himself in the City side and he has been handed the No.19 shirt for his first season at the club.

He will be determined to pick up a trophy after failing to claim any major honours during his three years with Arsenal.

Nasri's departure will come a huge blow to Arsene Wenger, especially as it comes so soon after Cesc Fabregas left to join hometown club Barcelona.

Wenger has been urged to bring in new faces before the transfer deadline but may find it difficult if Arsenal cannot secure a spot in the group phase of the UEFA Champions League by beating Udinese on Wednesday night.

Unlike Arsenal, City has been busy in the market this summer and Mancini has indicated that Nasri will not be the last new recruit.

Frustrated Denny Hamlin On Outside Looking In As Chase Looms

Denny Hamlin's season has been below average at best. Sunday at Michigan, it got worse.
Returning to the site of his only 2011 victory, Hamlin finished 35th after hitting the wall and going two-laps down in the Pure Michigan 400. His #11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota made a trip to the garage two-thirds of the way through the race, and Hamlin never recovered. His attitude after the race was even more disappointing.
Hamlin said, "We have to get this ship up and pointing back in the right direction, and it's going to take a lot of hard work to do it." "This is the first time where I've struggled and we're struggling to find the balance of the car that I want."
"We were fighting the car all day from tight to loose and back and forth," Hamlin said. "Our car just really struggled on corner entry on being loose. I was in a pack of cars there and tried to enter the corner with a little bit more speed and just got too loose and got into the w...

Big throws in the clutch

Put a runner at third base with less than two outs, and that's a rally. But the way the Braves are playing right now it was only a brick wall for Arizona.

The Diamondbacks supplied that scenario twice in the final four innings Sunday against the Braves and came away empty in a 1-0 loss.

First baseman Freddie Freeman made a basket catch in foul territory and gunned one home to get former Braves player Kelly Johnson in the first case, and closer Craig Kimbrel coolly struck out two batters to get out of the second jam and end the game.

Tim Hudson pitched seven shutout innings, Jonny Venters covered the eighth, and Kimbrel moved within a save of matching Neftali Feliz's rookie record of 40 set last year for the World Series-bound Rangers.

"If the team wasn't playing good, I wouldn't even have the chance to do it," Kimbrel said. "It's as much of a team thing as it is a personal thing."

After completing a weekend sweep to go 6-1 in back-to-back series against the Giants and Diamondbacks, the Braves are honing in on the postseason again, too. In that span, they widened their wild-card lead on the Giants from five games to eight.

"I just think we're playing with a purpose," said Hudson, now 13-7 and leading the Braves staff in wins.

Alex Gonzalez's solo home run in the third inning supplied all of the offense needed Sunday. It was the Braves' seventh home run of the series and 13th of the homestand.

"In April, May, June, July, that's what we've done," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We've been able to pitch when our offense wasn't swinging the bat and keep us in ballgames. It's nice to see that again."

It was the third 1-0 win for the Braves this season and second in the past four days, following Mike Minor's victory over Tim Lincecum and the Giants.

Gonzalez also hit a solo home run in Tommy Hanson's 1-0 win on June 7 in Florida.

With the way Arizona starter Josh Collmenter has baffled Braves hitters with his over-the-top delivery --- allowing only one run in 13 innings in two starts this season --- Hudson was ready to bear down. He gave up only three hits, walked three and struck out seven.

Johnson was only the third Diamondbacks player to touch second base against Hudson on his leadoff triple in the sixth inning. Johnson didn't risk trying to score on a groundout to Gonzalez with the infield in, but when he saw Freeman turn his back to go after Chris Young's pop-up in foul territory, he tagged up.

Freeman caught it over the shoulder, turned, planted and fired home, where catcher Brian McCann made a diving tag to get Johnson to end the sixth.

"It was a great play by Freddie," Hudson said. "He's been great all year. He's been playing some Gold Glove first base. It's another element of his game that could warrant rookie of the year."

Freeman's toughest competition for rookie of the year comes from Kimbrel, who has pitched 30 2/3 innings since June 11 without giving up a run.

Kimbrel gave up a one-out walk and single to put runners at the corners in the ninth on Sunday, but he didn't flinch.

Kimbrel struck out Paul Goldschmidt for the second out and got Sean Burroughs to end the game. In the process, Kimbrel collected his 100th and 101st strikeouts of the year --- which leads all major league relievers.

"I felt confident the whole time," Kimbrel said of his ninth-inning jam. "As soon as I slip up and quit feeling confident in myself, they'll probably get me."

Can Donovan McNabb Put Visanthe Shiancoe Back on the Map?

Visanthe Shiancoe ?s numbers took quite a hit last year. I know 47 catches for 530 yards and two scores isn?t terrible, but when you consider that 162 of those yards and one of those touchdowns came in the first two weeks, it starts to paint a grim picture..One year after catching 56 passes for 566 yards and 11 touchdowns with Brett Favre and Shiancoe became an afterthought after two games. He had just one more standout fantasy game when he picked up 66 yards and a score against Arizona in Week 9. He had one more game with 54 yards which is a mediocre performance, but he had 41 or fewer years in the remaining 12 games..It wasn?t just Favre?s arrival in 2009 though that made Shiancoe a viable fantasy option. In 2008 he caught 42 passes for 596 yards and seven touchdowns. While his 2009 production would be a reach, can he get back to the 2008 level?.There are some things working in his favor. For starters, without Sidney Rice the Vikings lack a legitimate red zone threat at wide recei...

Mark Recchi Commemorates Bruins Stanley Cup Victory With Tattoo (Photo)

First, Mark Recchi celebrated his third Stanley Cup victory by announcing his retirement. Then, the ex-Bruin had a road named after him. Now -- and forever -- his ankle will commemorate the three times he kissed the Stanley Cup. The three-time Cup champion's tattoo is a picture of the Stanley Cup, with 1991, 2006 and 2011 -- the years Recchi won -- written on it. The Bruins, Hurricanes and Penguins logos are featured around the Stanley Cup, marking each team Recchi won with. This might be Recchi's gateway tattoo -- Yahoo's Greg Wyshynski reports that Recchi plans on getting a...

Ravens' Harbaugh apologizes to Haley, Chiefs

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh apologized to the Kansas City Chiefs after scoring a pair of late touchdowns in a 31-13 preseason victory on Friday.
The game ended shortly after rookie running back Anthony Allen scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with five seconds remaining.
Harbaugh reasoned that he wanted to get a better evaluation of some of his younger players, but also noted that he would have coached differently had it been a regular-season game.
"I want to apologize to the Chiefs if they feel like we were not doing the right thing at the end of the game,? Harbaugh told the Carroll County (Md.) Times. "The mindset was this is preseason. If this had been regular season, we would have been on a knee.
"The idea in that situation is to give these young guys who work hard and who are trying to make a football team to play the whole 60 minutes and give them a chance to show what they could do.?
Kansas City coach Todd Haley appeared to have a few choice words ...

Detroit Red Wings Chris Osgood: Behind the Music

Sometimes an opportunity comes along that is just too good to pass up; even if it comes at the expense of one of your dreams.

Chris Osgood officially announced his retirement on July 19th, ending a 16-year career spent mostly with the Red Wings. With that chapter finally closed, Osgood is free to return to his first love: music.

It’s not widely known that Osgood’s dream was to be a drummer in a rock band. While hockey is ingrained in the consciousness of every good Canadian boy from an early age, Osgood gravitated toward music. Growing up in picturesque Peace River, Alberta, Canada, Osgood got his fair share of hockey. From mini-mites all the way to junior hockey in Medicine Hat, Osgood excelled, impressing coaches and scouts with his skill and determination.

However, it was the time away from hockey he enjoyed the most. He found peace and solace in his drum kit. While on the ice, play can be chaotic and frenzied; in his basement behind his drums, he found order and calm. Being in charge and directing the pace of music was a far cry from the reactionary nature of being a goaltender. He very much liked, in fact preferred, that change of pace.

The discipline inherent to drumming actually helped his goaltending. The concentration necessary to stay on beat during a long drumroll paralleled that of focusing on shots through screens. The determination and tenacity he showed trying to emulate Neil Peart, his favorite Canadian drummer, surfaced in his goaltending as Osgood proved all doubters wrong and made it to the NHL.

While playing his junior hockey for the Medicine Hat Tigers, Osgood formed the band Sieve Fivehole with the help of his friend Ryan Peake. Every offseason, Osgood would head back to Peace River to rejoin his bandmates and play gigs around Edmonton and Calgary. Sieve Fivehole gained a steady following and seemed close to signing a recording deal on two different occasions.

They deals ultimately fell through due to Osgood’s commitment to the Tigers, as he had to head back to Medicine Hat each fall and the constant disconnect didn’t sit well with the rest of the band.

Then, in the fall of 1993, Osgood got the call to join the Detroit Red Wings. While he wanted to stick it out with Sieve Fivehole, the idea of joining a NHL team was too great an opportunity to pass up.

While Osgood was experiencing the ups and downs of professional hockey, his friends in Sieve Fivehole refused to sit and wait.

In the 1996 offseason, Osgood contacted Mike Peake in hopes of reuniting the band, but Peake had some disconcerting news. Peake had moved to Vancouver and met Chad and Mike Kroeger. Both had been in cover bands around Alberta, but wanted to write their own material. With drummer Mitch Guindon, they formed the band Nickelback and were starting to make a name for themselves.

Peake wished Osgood well, but offered him one piece of hope, telling him his name would be the first to come to mind should anything happen to their drummer.

Osgood didn’t have to wait long. In early 1997, Nickelback’s original drummer quit. Peake could think of only one man to fill the vacancy.  Peake played tapes of Sieve Fivehole’s performances for the rest of the band, and they agreed Osgood was their man. Peake thought being an NHL goaltender and a member of Nickelback might cause some backlash, so Osgood came up with the stage name Ryan Vikedal to throw the paparazzi off his scent.

With Nickelback being constantly in demand, Osgood knew he couldn’t maintain his status as goaltender for the Wings and be out on tour with the band. Something had to give.

He went to the Red Wings front office and presented general manager Ken Holland with his dilemma. Holland knew that a trade to a contender wouldn’t allow Osgood the kind of scheduling freedom he needed. Instead, he put Osgood on waivers, where the only team that would bother to pick him up would be one of low expectations and out of a playoff hunt.

Midway through the 2001-02 season, Osgood was on his way to the hockey purgatory known as Long Island. “This is my chance!” he thought. He got in touch with Peake to give him the good news. “I told him that, playing for this team, I could do both.  Here, I could be on tour four days a week, and no one would really miss me. We weren’t winning games anyway.”

Osgood was finally living his dream: touring with the biggest rock band in the world, and playing hockey on the side. It wasn’t long, however, before being a rock star began to take its toll on Ozzie.

The constant travel of an ordinary rock tour can be rough; when coupled with the demands of an NHL season, it can become downright torturous. In the middle of the 2004 tour, the band noticed Osgood behaving erratically. They didn't think much of it however—he was, after all, a goalie. It wasn’t until just before a show in Moose Factory, Ontario, that Peake found the cause.

There was Osgood, huddled over the table, inhaling $1000 worth of Pixie Stix. They finally had to let him go. That was the only way he could handle the rigorous lifestyle, Osgood explained, but understood the band's decision.

After being forced out of the band, the NHL lockout allowed Osgood some time to deal with his demons and the Red Wings eventually took another chance on him. He went on to lead the Wings to two consecutive Stanley Cup Finals appearances, winning one of them.

Now retired, Osgood is the assistant goalie coach for the Grand Rapids Griffins—and happy. Still, he leaves the door open to resurrecting his rockstar dreams.
