In recent years, there has been angst over Canada losing most of its NHL teams. But there is a chance that one squad could be headed back to the Great White North.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Thrashers could be sold to True North Sports and Entertainment who would likely move the team to Winnipeg.
Right now, nothing is set in stone since it is uncertain whether the league has given Atlanta Spirit, LLC – the Thrashers current owners – permission to negotiate with True North. Previously, the team had been seeking a buyer who would be interested in keeping the team in Atlanta, but so far no one has emerged.
For True North, this is their second attempt at acquiring an NHL team. The group, who currently owns the AHL’s Manitoba Moose, tried to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes and return them to their city of origin.
