If you ever wanted to see a football referee get knocked to the ground, I will do you one better. Here is a video of an high school official getting blown to the ground as if a tornado came through town.
Yahoo! Sports brings us a video we can enjoy simply for the fact that the referee seems to be just fine after taking an errant pass off the noggin. He gets up and runs toward the ball like a true champ, with not the smallest show of shame.
The pass comes from the arm of Allentown (Pa.) Dieruff High School quarterback Quentin Williams, which gives us the other unfortunate part of this story.
It seems Dieruff is in the midst of a 31-game losing streak, making that pass all the more explainable, as the report explains that a receiver just ran the wrong route.
It seems officials need to work at the risk of their own safety with this team on the field. Not that they are without a great deal of hope.
Dieruff football coach Kyle Beller has some words of encouragement:
We have talent and kids who can play football. We've been talking about correctable mistakes and it's time to correct them. If we stick together as a team and we correct those mistakes, I still feel good about this team. Very good.
The Bad News Bears clearly have an optimistic leader, but it worries me. That means this wonderful moment will be an isolated incident.
Too bad, because the referee looks to have a future in slapstick.
